An introduction to Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), potentially as preparation to undertaking a fully accredited course to become a Mental Health First Aider.

Description

This session aims to offer an introduction to Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), potentially as preparation for undertaking a fully accredited course to become a Mental Health First Aider. This will provide you with the basics of MFHA to equip you more fully, as a leader or manager, to better understand and support the mental health of your people.

Modules/Lessons

  • Introduce you to the definitions that exist around mental health, what some of the underlying causes can be, and the symptoms that may help you to recognise when someone is experiencing poor mental health.

  • Develop some knowledge of mental health support strategies and practices.

  • Consider how you manage your own resourcefulness (inner emotional state) in order to offer this kind of support to others more effectively.

  • Explore and practise some of the necessary skills, including listening deeply, showing empathy, and curiosity, which will better equip you to provide support to someone who may be struggling.

Target Student

Leaders, managers and/or those interested in moving towards MFHA accreditation
